How can I enter to win a free Wyoming State Parks annual pass?

Start by saving this important date: Saturday, February 1st2025

That’s when we kick off our first Walkingspree step challenge of 2025—and when you can start working (and walking) your way toward winning one of 250 Wyoming State Parks annual day passes!

To participate in the challenge, you’ll need to download the Walkingspree app and set up an account. (We’ll walk you through how to do it right here.)

If you already have a Walkingspree account, there’s nothing you need to do; the challenge will automatically load on your app the day it begins, and you can start logging your steps immediately.

How does a Walkingspree step challenge work?

Over the course of four weeks, you’ll be challenged to meet daily step goals and record them in the Walkingspree app.

Each week that you successfully meet your daily step goals, you’ll earn an entry into our drawing for one of 250 annual day passes to Wyoming state parks. That’s four total entries if you meet your step goals each day of the challenge!

In addition to earning entries into the drawing for the annual pass, you’ll earn Walkingspree points for completing the challenge—which translates to raffle ticket entries toward incentives we award to Walkingspree participants every quarter. (More on those here.)

What are the benefits of participating in a step challenge?

Joining a step challenge is wonderful motivation to get moving, indoors or out.

By bundling up and getting your steps outdoors, you’ll soak up numerous benefits for your mental health, including lowered stress, increased feelings of relaxation, and increased happiness.

Hear more about the benefits of getting outside in these two great podcasts—great for listening while you’re getting your steps in!

With new step goals each week, you’ll be challenged to venture outside your normal routine and add in more opportunities to get those steps in—like taking a walk over lunch, enjoying a winter hike with family or friends, or exploring a new route the next time you walk the dog.

How can I make the most of my annual parks pass if I win?

Elizabeth Traver, one of last year’s annual park pass winners, used a Wyoming State Parks passport as inspiration to get out and explore—and get closer to earning another free annual pass!

We’ll let her tell you the rest:

The passport has a page for each of the 37 official [Wyoming State Park] sites, and a place for a stamp to show you have been there. Additionally, the sites are set up in regions, and if you get to all the parks in a region, you get a Wyo State Park sticker! Then, if you visit all of the sites, you get a free park pass for the next year.

Since I won the pass, I hit 20 of the 37 sites this year and plan to hit the rest next year, so I can get another free park pass. I would never have bothered to go to all those sites if I had not won the pass, and now I am motivated to hit the rest so I can get another free park pass. I really enjoyed visiting sites I never would have without the motivation!

To get a Wyoming State Parks passport of your own, call (307) 777-6323 or visit a state park or historic site near you.
